Mostly, I thought the gen was filled with boring, uninteresting designs. There are a few decent characters, but a lot of it seems unimaginative. For example, a circle with a dandelion attached to it? Letters? Some of the "cool" monsters look more ugly than cool. Skarmory, for example, is supposed to be this metal bird, but looks ugly. Scizor is Scyther's evo, but gets rid of Scyther's personality, so it turns into this emotionless robot lobster.
but over time, those pokemon got more entrusting and some even grew into favorites among haters. like scizor for example: yes, it looks like a big lobster, but it's speed from scyther changes so much that it is a beast in battle. and those "letters", the unown, got a huge following in fan-fiction like lost silver and even the ruins when i played silver gave me the creeps. heck! some of my favorite pokemon are in this gen: heracross, Noctowl, Wobbuffet, Elekid, the legendary dogs, and my all time favorite legendary pokemon: lugia.
Uh, no. I meant Heracross looks nowhere near as cool as Pincer. Pincer is an intimidating, gnarly beetle you wouldn't want to come across, and Heracross is... a happy bug with really nothing going for it in its design. Just a stag beetle painted blue with a happy face.
